SPIRIT OF PLACE ART EVENT & STUDIO TOUR/ EXHIBIT

A Spirit of Place Art Event and Studio Tour, followed nearly 3 weeks later by a Spirit of Place Art Exhibit is the re-invention for the 4th year of the Plein Air Day and the Plein Air Plus Exhibit.

The focus of Spirit of Place continues to be on life and scenes from the Champlain Valley and Lake. Sponsored by the Arts Council of the Northern Adirondacks with the support of the Westport Chamber of Commerce, the Art Event will be Saturday, July 9, 2011, from 9 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. At that time, artists are encouraged to paint

or draw in Ballard Park, or at self-selected locations around town. The Spirit of Place committee is encouraging artists to submit at least one 12” x 12” painting of a local scene and the committee members are planning to make their own 12” x 12” work at that time in Ballard Park. An artist may enter three pieces of art in the exhibit.

“In the afternoon artists will open their studios to the public.  Location maps of the open studios may be obtained at the Arts Council, Heritage House, Westport, New York. 518 962-8778.

All art must be for sale at the Spirit of Place Exhibit, opening with a reception on Thursday, July 28, from 5 to 7 P.M. Artists will receive 60% of the sale, with 20% going both for administrative expenses and to benefit Heritage House. When art is sold, the winter heat cost at Heritage House benefits! 2011 Cover Art Show Awards

For 24 years the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks (ACNA) has been sponsoring the Cover Art Show. Each year we are amazed at the diversity and quality of the work submitted by our local artists. Over the years, the purpose of the show has remained true to its origin: to select the Cover Artwork for ACNA's Annual Arts Directory and Master Calendar.  We are very pleased to announce that this year the Cover Art winner is Linda Smyth of Port Henry, NY with her painting “With Eagerness I Awake”.  The cover will be raffled to benefit the Traveling Arts Exhibits. Drawing for the $1.00 tickets will be at “Field, Forest and Stream Day” in Elizabethtown on September 24th, 2011.

Best in Show was Joyce Hanson of Malone with her pastel ”Abstract Blue/Yellow, First Place 2-D was Matt Paul with his Oil Pastel  “The Elephant’s Child”, First Place 3-D was Radmilla Zuman with her Bobbin lace Neck Piece “Wings”, First Place Photograph was Steve Auger with his “Lower Cascade Lake”. Honorable Mentions went to, Barry Lobdell for his photograph “Reclining Nude”, Burdette Parks for his photograph “Liquid Pearls”, Sharon HJ Cheng for her oil painting “Invitation”, Erik Wilson for his acrylic painting “Lost”, Linda Sweeney for her pastel “River Song.”

The Americans for the Arts, Arts & Economic Prosperity, III Survey Results

Hello Everyone,

We want to send out a big thank you to all of you who have participated this past year with the Americans For The Arts survey, Arts and Economic Prosperity, III. This study was done to show the economic impact of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and their audiences in the Northern Adirondack Region for fiscal year 2007-2008. The results have come back to us here at the Arts Council from Americans for the Arts and can be found if you follow the link below.
